Washington, D.C., April 25, 2024 — The Union of American Physicians and Dentists (UAPD) has filed unfair labor practice charges against Unity Health Care, Washington, D.C.’s largest Federally Qualified Health Center. UAPD filed the charges with the National Labor Relations Board on behalf of physicians and advanced practice providers employed at Unity; they cover several workplace violations, including:
- Bargaining in bad faith
- Retaliating against organized workers
- Attempting to silence organized workers
UAPD and Unity Health Care providers will hold a press conference this Tuesday, April 30, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. in front of the DC Jail/Central Detention Facility (1901 D St. SE, Washington, D.C.) to publicly discuss the deteriorating and unsafe workplace conditions at Unity.
“There was no other choice than to file unfair labor practice charges against Unity Health Care,” said Stuart Bussey, MD, JD, UAPD president. “We believe that Unity has interfered with the rights of our members and created a hostile and unsafe work environment that hinders their ability to provide healthcare services to their patients. We will not stand idly by as management mistreats the providers who deliver lifesaving care to the DC community.”
