La Familia Medical Center is in trouble. The community health center which has provided primary medical care and served rich and poor from pregnancy through old age is in danger of failing. The many passionate doctors, nurse practitioners and employees who have chosen to work for its mission are proud to be part of the legacy of decades of service and education to our community, but they are under duress.
Over the past year, their work environment has become increasingly toxic. In response, the provider staff just overwhelmingly voted to unionize and will be represented by the Union of American Physicians and Dentists. Because of the fear of retaliation for speaking out publicly, they asked me to write on their behalf.
