UAPD members marched alongside hundreds of state employees calling for essential worker pay at a rally organized by AFSCME Local 2620, SEIU 1000, and the UAPD at the California State Capitol.
Dr. Kafia Abbasi, M.D., Dr. Rashid Jahangiri, M.D., and Dr. Stuart Bussey, M.D., J.D., UAPD President, discussed the state’s 50% vacancy rate for full-time psychiatrists in the state prison system. They emphasized how the state’s push for private, short-term contractors costs taxpayers more money and how it impedes on continuity of care for people who are incarcerated who have serious mental health conditions.
