LA County Correctional Health Services Pharmacists who had endured an opaque, unfair, and ever-changing vacation request process for years, finally had enough and with help from UAPD staff filed several grievances in early 2020 alleging favoritism and demanding a fair system. The grievances succeeded in overturning unfair denials of requests for time off, and more importantly forced management to negotiate a new fair, fixed and transparent process. The negotiations took months with management obstructing and stalling all the way, but we finally came to agreement in August 2020 on a process that has worked without any problem for 2021 vacation requests. This process also exposed pharmacy management’s overall misconduct forcing them to change their behavior so that an area that once generated many complaints of unfair treatment from our members no longer does so.
