Since the implementation of the Affordable Care Act, doctors have been in high demand. During the last round of negotiations, UAPD argued strenuously that the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services (DHS) was underpaying many of its doctors, making recruitment and retention difficult. As a result of these conversations, the County recently agreed to increase the salaries for DHS Family Practice and Internal Medicine doctors using the County’s Manpower Shortage provisions. This is great news all-around.
Specifically, all DHS Family Practice and Internal Medicine doctors not yet at Step 10 in the salary schedule will be moved to Step 10, retroactive back to January 1, 2015. In addition, all Family Practice and Internal Medicine doctors will receive a 10% increase. The DHS Human Resources department mailed letters to individuals who will be receiving the raise.
